Q.How do I change my username/password?
A. You can change your username or password by sending a fax to
Palnet (02-240-3430) stating your name, telephone number, your old
username and/or password, and the new username and/or password.
Changing a username usually needs 24 hours to take effect.
Q.How
can I save an image from a homepage?
A.First, go to the desired address, then place the mouse cursor
over the image you want to save, and click the right mouse button,
then a short menu appears and select Save Image As..
Q.Will Palnet ever disconnect me on purpose?
A.No, Palnet users can get disconnected for Accounting reasons.
Each user is sent an email 15 days before his payment is due, the
message is entitled "Your Payment is Due". This message
is a reminder that the account will expire at the end of the month.
If no contact by the user is made the account will be disabled one
week after the date of expiration of his account.
Q.How can I get to the websites I read about?
A.First, open the Web browser (ex. Internet Explorer, Netscape),
then click on File and then on Open Page. A small window will appear
where you can enter the URL of the page you wish to see. Finally,
click on Open Page.
Q.What does downloading mean?
A.Downloading means retrieving files from a remote site on the Internet
and placing it on your computer.
Q. Can I give my password to someone
else so that they can use my account to connect to Palnet?
A.No, because this is not secure for you since they will
have access to all your files (for example, email). Also, two people
with the same username cannot connect at one time.

an email account, and free web space for users to put their personal

A. A search engine is a homepage on the Internet which allows
you to search for any subject you desire simply by entering the
word into the appropriate place and pressing search. The search
engine will give you a number of possible sites which you can choose
from. Examples are Yahoo, Altavista.

A. FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a protocol which allows
you to transfer files from one system to another, for example, from
your computer to your website.

can't I connect to Palnet?
A. If you have a problem connecting to Palnet, please check
that the modem is working properly and connected to the phone inlet.

is my Internet connection slow?
Probably because the proxies are not configured.

Q.How
do I make sure I'm disconnected from the phone line after I am finished
using the Internet?
A. A simple way would be to pick up the phone, or you can
click on the Start button and click on Run and enter the command
"winipcfg". If the IP address is 0.0.0.0 then there is
no connection.
Q.Why
do I sometimes get a busy phone line signal?
A. Because of the traffic on the phone lines, you can use another
phone number to connect or wait for a while until the traffic on
the lines is less.

I connect to Palnet even if I don't have Win3.11 or Win95/98?
A. Yes, you can connect to Palnet even if you use different
operating systems, like Windows NT, UNIX, Mac, etc...

does my Palnet connection keep getting disconnected?
A. This is usually because the modem configuration is incorrect,
or an initialization string is needed for the modem.

do I get disconnected as soon as my username and password are verified?
A. Either the username or password are entered incorrectly.
Please be noted that capital and small letters do make a difference
when trying to connect.

is the first thing to do when you want to connect?
A. The first thing to do is to go to Shortcut to Palnet, put
your password and click on the connect button.

Q. Why
can't I download my email?
A. Make sure that the POP3 and SMTP servers are configured
to mail.palnet.com and that the username and password are entered
correctly.
Q.Can
I get my email even when I'm not connected to Palnet?
A. Yes, just make sure that the POP3 server is mail.palnet.com
and then enter your Palnet username and password and you can download
mail from any computer in the world which is connected to the Internet.
Q. What
are attachments?
A. Attachments are files which can be sent with an email message.
When you write an email message simply click on "attachments"
and choose the desired file and it will be sent with the email message.
Q. Is
there a limit to my mailbox size?
A. Yes. Each Palnet users gets 5MB of mailbox space. This
is more than enough space even if a person is to receive several
messgaes with attachments. Just make sure that the mail does not
remain on Palnet servers after the mail is downloaded, because this
could cause the mail to be disabled if the amount of mail remaining
in the Palnet servers is larger than 5MB.
Q. What
is spam? Who can I complain to about it?
A. Spam is the nickname that stuck for excessive multiple
posts and/or excessive crossposts to Usenet newsgroups. Spam is
not just any post that is an off-topic advertisement or otherwise
inappropriate, (although these tend to be the type of messages that
are often indeed spam.) You can complain about spam to abuse@palnet.com.

are signatures and how can I add a signature to my mail messages?
A. Signatures are short text files which automatically attach
to the end of any email message sent. They can be added by choosing
the signature option in the email program and either entering the
required signature text or inserting the path to where the signature
file is placed.

A. Email stands for Electronic Mail. It's a digital mean of
transmitting messages via phone lines to other people's computers.

do I check if my modem is working properly?
A. Double click on the modems icon in the Control Panel, then
go to diagnostics and click on the port where the modem is. Then,
click on more info. If no error messages appear then the modem is
working fine.

and then clicking on properties. You can then choose the volume
